What this is
ThePhindex measures 60 seasons of Dolphins football — 933 regular-season games, 289 player profiles, every opponent, every opening-day quarterback, and 433 draft picks scored against what their slot was worth.
It exists because most team sites either stop at the box score or hide their methodology. Here the calculation behind every number is written on the page that shows it.
Where the numbers come from
Game results, team efficiency, and draft data come from nflverse, which publishes open NFL data. Salary-cap figures are verified against OverTheCap. Pre-1999 results were compiled per season and reconciled against the franchise's own win-loss record before being published.
The data refreshes automatically every Tuesday morning, and a scheduled check reports loudly if it ever falls behind.
How the numbers are handled
- Era honesty
Open play-by-play begins in 1999, so SRS and EPA cover 27 of 60 seasons. Earlier years show a dash — never a zero, which would read as a real measurement.
- Verification
Compiled history is checked against an independent record before publication. A season that does not reconcile is left out rather than guessed at.
- Corrections
Mistakes get through anyway. If you find one, email thephindex@gmail.com — corrections take priority over everything else.
Independence
ThePhindex is a fan project with no affiliation to the Miami Dolphins or the NFL. It is supported by advertising, which has no influence on what the numbers say.
