Chairman of the Board / Managing General Partner. The Related Companies founder bought 50% in 2008 and majority control in 2009 (~$1.1B total for team and stadium). Has since sold minority interests while retaining firm control.
Ares Management
The private-equity giant's stake — among the first PE investments approved under the NFL's 2024 institutional-ownership rules — valued the Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium, and the F1 Miami Grand Prix at $8.1B.
Joe Tsai & Oliver Weisberg
The Brooklyn Nets owner (Alibaba co-founder) and his Blue Pool Capital partner joined in the same NFL-approved December 2024 transaction.
Additional limited partner
Ross sold a further 1% of the holding company for $125M in March 2026 — a $12.5B valuation, the richest minority transaction in sports history at the time.
Celebrity limited partners
Gloria & Emilio Estefan, Marc Anthony, Venus Williams, Serena Williams, and Fergie bought small stakes in 2009, tying the franchise to South Florida's music and sports royalty.

- 1965Joe Robbie and Danny Thomas awarded the AFL expansion franchise for $7.5M.
- 1966–1990The Robbie family era: Joe Robbie privately finances Joe Robbie Stadium (1987).
- 1990–1994Wayne Huizenga buys 15% and the stadium (1990), then completes full purchase from the Robbie family (1994).
- 2008–2009Stephen Ross acquires 50%, then majority control (~$1.1B total valuation).
- 2024Ares Management (10%) and Joe Tsai (3%) buy in at an $8.1B valuation.
- 2026A further 1% sells for $125M — a record $12.5B valuation.
One franchise, three businesses
The ownership group's South Florida portfolio extends well past football: privately held Hard Rock Stadium hosts the Super Bowl rotation, college football championships, and international soccer; the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix runs on a purpose-built campus circuit around the stadium; and the venue is a marquee host site for the FIFA World Cup 2026. All three were part of the valuation in the 2024–26 minority-stake sales.
