The Expansion Years
An AFL upstart finds its feet
Joe Robbie and entertainer Danny Thomas land the AFL's first expansion franchise for $7.5M. Under first coach George Wilson, the young Dolphins play at the Orange Bowl and endure expansion growing pains — never finishing above .500, but drafting the cornerstones of a dynasty to come.

- 1965Franchise awarded to Joe Robbie & Danny Thomas for $7.5M.
- 1966Inaugural AFL season at the Orange Bowl — a 3–11 debut.
- 1967Bob Griese drafted 4th overall out of Purdue.
- 1968Larry Csonka drafted 8th overall — the future workhorse.
